Yasashii Ongaku: Tears in Heaven Tengoku Kimi he (2022)
Konnichiwa, minna san...
January 2022 is not over yet, but I have watched a bunch of Jmovies recently. My speed to watch can't be compared to my speed to write reviews on the movies. For me, it's a bit regret not to write anything about the ones I watched. Some of them are really interesting that I really want to share and recommend to everyone to watch. Unfortunately, I can't write as detailed as I used to be. The temptation to watch more and more is unbearable. That's why, here I am, writing random thoughts about the movies I watched. It can be a kind of notes to myself that I have seen the movies and remind myself that I enjoy it or it was just so-so. And one more thing, after I read so many people's reviews on MDL, I found myself lack of sense of reviewing and sometimes I couldn't find the right words to describe how I felt.
Synopsis:
University student, Suzuki Chinami lives with her parents in Northern Kamakura. Her father Masashi is a university professor and loves playing the guitar, and her perfect family-oriented mother, Keiko sings well, and is a good cook. One morning, Chinami leaves her home earlier than usual. When she arrives at Gokurakuji station, she sees a young man, Nagai Takeru, standing and reading at the platform.
Chinami unconsciously frozen to the spot and looks terribly shocked. Chinami couldn't stop staring at him until Takeru gets on the train. Takeru cannot make sense of her reaction and is taken aback.
Takeru works diligently for a small shipyard. He apparently lives alone in an old apartment. There's no background of his family. A family photo and what appears to be his parents' belongings are displayed.
Despite their different circumstances, Chinami and Takeru become a couple through that weird first encounter. However, Chinami never lets Takeru meet her parents. When Takeru steps into her house for the first time, the shocking reasons becomes clear and stirs up the past. Will he be able to come to terms with the truth?

I think, I'm just lucky to see this movie while I was finishing to read Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. The idea of losing someone in the past was quite similar. I was quite curious when I read the synopsis, well, why d you think Chinami won't let her boyfriend see her parents? but the answer came about 20 minutes later. The reaction of her mother was really shocking when she saw Takeru for the first time. She was super friendly serving him dinner, and I was about so sure to see her feeding Takeru the food. Hahahaha...

I felt as heart-broken as Takeru after knowing the truth. Should I tell you here? Well, I won't giveaway any spoilers. But, considering the title, mentioning something about Tears in Heaven, you must remember a very legendary song from Eric Clapton, right? It's about losing someone and wishing to see the deceased in heaven. So, I think you can assume from the review I write here why Chinami's parents had that reaction. Losing someone is painful, but at least Chinami and family have each other to find comfort. It's different from the book by Banana Yoshimoto, Kitchen. After losing grandmother, Mikage was left alone. Thanks to Yuichi and his mother/ father who invited her to stay together. Yuichi was no one but an acquaintance of her grandmother. They barely knew each other before. However, I think it's not fair to compare their loss. Loss is loss. Everyone must have experienced losing someone dear and the feeling afterwards varied from one to another. The grief is always there.
I can say that, the tone of the movie was just right. You can feel the emotion, the grief, the disappointment, the love and the wishful thinking. The song of Tears in Heaven was performed emotionally at almost the end of the movie. Perfect!
