(Review Jmovie) Kahogo no Kahoko (Overprotected Kahoko)

Ever thought of raising a child when you have children? Are you going to use a method like your parents raising you, or as written in guidebooks, or as already shared on social media, or do you have your own way?

Continuing the story of Dorama Kahogo no Kahoko that aired in 2017, the film took the title Kahogo no Kahoko 2018: Love and Dream is still focusing on Kahoko's life. At the end of the dorama, Kahoko finally married Hajime Mugino, an art student who dreamed of beating Picasso. Kahoko, along with his father's family, built a shelter house for children with busy parents, or abandoned children.

After a year of marrying Hajime, Kahoko's life was still as messy as before she got married. Her busy life as a housekeeper in shlter house, and taking care of the household often made her exhausted. Likewise with Hajime who works part time at a coffee shop. He is still obsessed with his dreams defeating Picasso. This busy couple did not think of having children at all, until Kahoko's mother began to insinuate. As usual, her  mouth is still poisonous, even though what she says is true. Her appearance again in Kahoko's life meant she would become a 'remote control' for Kahoko's household.

For Kahoko, having children is the umpteenth dream. She only focused on her grandmother's will to continue to maintain family traditions, one of which was to gather when one family member celetrating birthday. Ito Namiki, her cousin will have her birthday on Sunday. So, Kahoko got busy with all the preparations.

During the birthday celebration, a new problem arose, such as her mother who seemed to not get along with her father, her aunt who opposed Ito's dream to study abroad to become a conductor of an orchestra, and also her other aunt who wanted to have children by IVF. Unfortunately, her husband did not approve of his wife's wishes. The Kahoko family is in danger of being scattered!

A glimpse of the last episode of the drama Kahogo no Kahoko, if I'm not mistaken, Kahoko had turned to be like her mother, as protective and fussy as her mother. But, in this movie, Kahoko seemed to be back into Kahoko her old self, messy, dependable, careless, clumsy, etc. Maybe it's just reminding the audience about how Kahoko's past is. But it seems, I expected to watch Kahoko who incarnate like his mother, overprotected and always interfered of other people's business. At the beginning of the drama, I still really enjoyed how clumsy Kahoko was on campus, how she tried to get out of his mother's shell, how she tried to be independent, how she fought her mother when she chose to marry Hajime. But I thought, at the end of the drama I felt Kahoko was very preachy. Indeed, her words did have a point, but I felt tired to hear every time she spoke in front of her family, as if she had experience in life. Problems can arise when something goes wrong (outside what Kahoko knows), but that doesn't mean that everything has to go as ideal as Kahoko right? Maybe this movie promoted to the audience about the importance of family, a problem that must be dealt with shoul not be avoided, and dreams and love are something you have to pursue, whatever the risks.

The reason I watched dorama / this film was Ryoma Takeuchi: P, but then I saluted the Mitsuki Takahata's acting who was so blended to Kahoko's role. Facial expressions and gestures are so convincing. Ryoma Takeuchi is also very good here. His gesture and style when he was annoyed at Kahoko was both ridiculous and fun. The overprotected role of the mother was also delivered very extraordinarily by Hitomi Kuroki. Previously I had never seen her in a number of movies or films that I have watched.

At the end, if you haven't watched this family drama, just watch it. It's fun yet touching. Watch out with Kahoko, you 'll get annoyed yet thrilled to see her. And you will think, how would you educate and raise your children in the future. Will you have your own way?

Video from Youtube, thank you, Hazukii02.
