(Jmovie Review) Over Drive
“Keep your promise, and be the best in the world”.
That quote might be haunting Hiyama Naozumi since the shadow
of someone he loved kept following him. Naozumi is a talented car racer for
SPICA Racing Factory. His brother, Atsuhiro Hiyama, is a chief mechanic at the
same factory. They used to race together on their bicycle when they were child.
When they grow up, they have different path, Naozumi in car racing, Atsuhiro
finds his love fixing things.
Naozumi aims for WRC (World Race Championship), and considers
what he has been doing is just stepping stone to aim higher goals. He is
well-known not only for his natural gift of racing, but also his temper. His ambition
to get his goal sometimes enraged his brother. He tends to disobey his brother’s
warning while driving. Deep in his heart, Naozumi still keeps his jealousy of
his first love, Hina, his childhood friend. He declared his love to her, but it
seems that Hina preferred Atsuhiro over him.
Well, not much I can tell about the movie actually. The most
scenes is in racing field, in and outside Japan. Other than that is in SPICA
garage where Atsuhiro fixes and creates car machine. Even when a new manager, a
female, comes, she doesn’t really change the tense of the racing. But, thanks
to her arrival, she can make the brothers reveal their past, and both of them
can compromise how they have been feeling to each other for the past 6-8 years,
after Hina left to Boston.
The one-hour-forty-four-minutes movie seems too short to elaborate
the emotion of the characters here. Naozumi whose bad temper often enrages
people around him, has his suppressed feeling that he throws up right before
the competition. Atsuhiro seems to be busy most of the time looks like he’s
hiding something with his ambition creating something. Unfortunately, the movie
is too short to tell about it. One mechanic in SPICA factory, Masuda Junpei has
his hidden talent designing a car. After Endo Hikaru, the female manager of
Naozumi, finds out, I was waiting for him to take action when there’s a problem
or something that later shows everyone that he has that talent. But, I waited
until forever. It is a waste not to reveal his talent. But then again, if only
this is not a movie, maybe, all characters can show their important roles to something
they dedicate into, SPICA factory.
Overall, this is a recommended movie for those who love car
racing. I cannot comment much about it since I’m not into car racing :D . The
reason why I watch this of course to see so many ikemens acting here :D Starting
from Masahiro Higashide acts as the mechanic. He is soooo manly here, even just
looking at his hands. LOL. Mackenyu acts as Naozumi, playing as the trouble
maker racer really suits him. He can show both his extravagant life as a racer
and someone lonely very wonderfully. To tell you the truth, I know that
Mackenyu is gorgeous but I’m not really fond of him. I think he improves his
acting recently, especially if he plays antagonist. His smile is wicked ππ
Besides the two main lead, there are other two eye candies here, Takumi
Kitamura and Keita Machida. My recommendation for you who don’t find car racing
interesting, just watch this movie for the ikemens. You won’t regret it πππ
