5 Recommended BL Movies/ Dramas

I bet some of you follow the news of the ongoing BL drama, called 30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni narerurashii or 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard? or to be simpler, Cherry Magic. Well, if you are into yaoi genre in manga, I think you're quite familiar with some yaoi manga or perhaps some previous drama that take place before Cherry Magic. I'd like to write about why Cherry Magic becomes a hit these days. However, it might be in my upcoming post. This post is only giving you recommendations for BL movies/ dramas.

1. Cherry Magic (12 episode-drama)

Adachi Kiyoshi (Akaso Eiji) just celebrated his 30 birthday when he realized that he could read people's minds whenever he touched them, even only a slight touch. He was overwhelmed with his sudden ability, but gradually glad to have the magic. He thought he could understand people’s feeling so that he could give them a hand. The feeling changed as soon as he found out that one of his male friends, Kurosawa Yuichi (Keita Machida), had romantic feeling to him.

This is very different from other BL movies/ dramas I watched. The comedy, the story line, and the casts are all superb. If you haven’t watched it, try not to squeal every time Kurosawa touched Adachi. I bet you’ll lose. LOL.

 2. Life Senjou no Bokura (4 episodes)

One day, Ito Akira (Jin Shirasu), a serious quiet student met Nishi Yuuki (Raiku), a child-like student from a different school. They always walked on the sidewalk's white lines. When they met each other, they insisted to stay in the line. A slight touch between them while crossing the line made Ito realize that their everyday meeting draws him to Nishi romantically.

Pssstt... I watched this only the first episode. Plan to continue later.

3. Pornographer.

Kuzumi Haruhiko (Izuka Kenta) is a university student. One day, he accidentally caused an accident by bike that made Rio Kijima, a novelist, (Terunosuke Takezai) break his arm. Since Kuzumi doesn't have any insurance or money to pay Rio for his injury, he voluntarily becomes Rio's assistant to transcribe a novel he's writing. Kuzumi is shocked to know what kind of novel Rio is writing, a lewd adult novel that makes Kuzumi sexually aroused.

Pssstt, I watched this up to 5th episode, and I couldn't continue it since it had too many vulgar scenes, both male to female and male to male. I'm an adult but I still can't see that kind of scene. LOL.

4. His

Igawa Shun (Hio Miyazawa) and Hibino Nagisa (FujiwaraKisetsu) meet each other when they are in high school and they fall in love when they are in their first year. After they graduate, Nagisa tells Shun that they can't be together in the future. Years later, Shun dwells in a rural area by himself. His peace suddenly changes when Nagisa shows up with his daughter. Shun, who still keeps his feeling, is in a dilemma: to accept Nagisa or refuse him.

But, I guess Shun doesn't have any choice, right?

I watched this movie weeks ago and tend to write a review, unfortunately, I was distracted with so many dramas and movies 😁. I can say that the movie is beautifully written and portrayed by the two actors. Respecting each other's choice, no matter how hard it was in the beginning would end up peace of mind. It's about forgiveness, understanding, generosity and love. Those values you can hold on in your life.

PS: This movie has a drama version with different casts entitled His - Ididn’t Think I would Fall in Love (2019). The story revolves around young Shun and Nagisa. It has 5 episodes.

5. Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Kokuru

The story takes place in a high school with Andou Jun (Kaneko Daichi) as the center of the story. This 18-year old student hides his identity as a gay from his mother and his friends in school. Behind their back, he has a date with an adult who is married. His classmate, Miura (Fujino Ryoko) is a big fan of BL manga. Their accidental meeting in a bookshop draws them closer. Gradually, Miura has feelings for Jun without knowing that he is a gay.

I watched this drama up to 4 episodes, and the subtitle was on going. That's why I stop watching it for a while (well, now it's updated up to eps 7).

At first, I thought I couldn't stand watching BL drama with some sex scenes between male and male. But then, after I watched His and some episodes of this drama, I realized that the theme is not only about feeling towards male to male, but also about questions about being normal relationship, especially if the characters live in non-friendly gay society. They have to bear people’s judgement, and even try to have normal relationship. The burden is there for Jun, and I think some other gays, too.

Well, from watching those movies and dramas, I think I have a bit different perspectives about BL. Now I understand why some girls have something like a fantasy towards BL (as I saw in many mangas or dramas) since now I binge-watch the behind the scene Cherry Magic! and 2gether series (BL series from Thailand). I enjoy watching them being shy in front of the camera. Lol. I can say I’m obsessed with #SarawatTine. #AdachiKurosawa might come up later. LOL.

Well, actually there are many other BL dramas or movies if you’re into them, like Kinou Nani Tabeta (What did You Eat Yesterday) and Ossan’s Love. But what I wrote here is the ones I have watched so I could recommend to you. For more BL drama/ movies, you can go to this mydramalist link. But, don’t ask me where to watch those dramas since the link has so many lists from time to time.
