A murderer falls in love with the target? Well, for me, it sounds familiar, but I can't point what movie/ drama/ story that reminds me of the plot. I was trying to find the movie by googling, but it's no results. LOL.
Onotora Shu might be the happiest man in the world with his foster father who loved him unconditionally. Until one day, he heard that his foster father, Joichiro san was murdered. Not knowing why and how, Shu got another shock from his foster father's friend, Shiori, telling him that Joichiro was a legendary professional killer from a certain organization (approved by local police), called SOS.
Shu never had any idea that Joichiro, his smiley and kind hearted foster father was a killer. Daily, they worked together in cleaning agency. They went from one place to another to do the cleaning. Therefore, the reality about Joichiro being a killer was a big shock. Shu was asked to take a revenge over Joichiro's murder.
Shiori san showed a short video when the murder took place. It showed in the video someone's face that later was identified as Narumiya Mitsuki, a sky-rocketting mangaka. She's a young, beautiful and talented mangaka. She's recently made her first appearance in public after she had been in hiding. Shu was directed to finish his job on the event Narumiya was going to attend.
Never had Shu thought that Narumiya was his old longing childhood friend. They kept their promise to protect each other.
Let's discuss a bit about each character. spoiler alert, minna san :D
Nakagawa Taishi as Onotora Shu
The cleaning service staff turned to be a hitman |
As someone who lost parents and then got a very loving foster father, broke him into pieces. No wonder, he intended to take revenge to the murderer no matter the gender was. Before the murder, Shu was cheerful and attentive toward his surroundings. The murder changed him into someone full of revenge. Unfortunately his kind heart distracted him from doing the killing. Instead, he protected his target a couple of times until he realized that the one he had to kill was his childhood friend, his first love.
I've seen Nakagawa Taishi from many dramas and movies he was in. The first time I saw him was in Your Lie in April. I was stunned to see his resemblance to the anime character as Watari. He looked like a figure coming out of a manga 😁. From then on, I saw him growing his acting talent. Sometimes his role was a bit typical: awkward, nervous, clumsy, stuttering when talking, but so far, I like him when he acting out those roles. No wonder, I watched most of his movies/ dramas. Anyone agrees with me, about his improving talents?
Araki Yuko as Narumiya Mitsuki
The uprising mangaka |
At first, she acted almighty, full of herself, especially to Shu who showed up out of nowhere, saving her a couple of times. Shu had known her for her good drawing when she was a child. No wonder, she grew up as a popular mangaka. But, how could she kill Joichiro san? From one episode to another, she gradually opened her secret about she really was. Was she the real murderer of Joichiro san?
Frankly speaking, I don't really follow Araki's dramas and movies. I watched some of them though. If I did, I watched because of the other characters. Like Todome no Kissu, Yamaken, Jun Shison, and Mackenyu were the reasons I enjoyed the drama; Anoko no Toriko, Yoshizawa Ryo of course was the reason I watched the movie 😉; Crisis, Special Security Squad, who else to watch there but Oguri Shun and Nishijima Hidetoshi? Well, I did enjoy her acting in Ex Enthusiasts Motokare Mania. She played unusual role there. It's so fun to see an actress or actor to perform a very different role.
Fujiki Naohito as Onotora Joichiro
Shu's foster father who was murdered |
He was the one who raised Shu after he lost his parents. He even gave Shu his family name. He taught Shu kinds of lessons that Shu never thought he would use it when he replaced Joichiro san as a member of SOS. It's so sad to see him go so soon in the drama.
Who doesn't know this senior actor. I got acquainted with Jdramas about 6-8 ago. Well, I didn't watch his dramas/ movies when Naohito Fujiki was younger. But I did enjoy watching his drama: Natsuzora, My Sister's Soulmate, Good Doctor. When someone is good actor, he would perform absolutely well even he has supporting role there. And Fujiki Naohito is the kind of actor. And, I can say he ages well 😍
Suzuki Nobuyuki as Yaotome Ryusei/ Death Prince
A public figure as well as a hitman |
At first, I thought that Shu was the only hit man who would kill Narumiya Mitsuki. But then Ryusei showed up. He was a popular public figure who would take part in live action from the manga written by Narumiya Mitsuki. Who would have thought that he himself was a hit man. It's not clear who ordered him to do so. But, it's so fun yet a bit annoying to see him acting so dramatic during his killing trials. But his trials were all in vain. Lol. Ah, I liked the classic dramatic music every time he showed up with his killing attractions. Somehow it reminds of one of old dorama, Bitter Blood, when the villain tried to make chaos, the classic music was on.
Previously, I misidentified him as Shota Fukushi. But then I realized that they are totally different. Thanks to my watch time of Jdramas and jmovies. My impression? Well, he could be an amazing villain one day. Hahaha...
Mizuno Miki as Wataya Shiori
She could be a loving mother for Shu, but.... |
She was the ace of all troubles in the drama. Sorry, this is actually a great spoiler for every one who hasn't watched the drama. Shiori, together with Joichiro san actually raised Shu since he was a child. She could consider him as her child, unfortunately... Well, I won't give away too much info about her. But, just be careful with her.
So far, I've never noticed her in any dramas/ movies she was in. Gomen, Mizuko san.
Tanaka Minami as Minase Chikage
A fiance who wants to take revenge |
She played an important role in this dramatic chaos of Shu's life. Her fiancee was a journalist who was concerned with the truth. He heard about a secret organization from the police and he wanted to reveal th truth to public. He was very unfortunate to get identified by one of the secret organization that he was murdered. The death of Joichiro san, Shu's revenge, Shiori's intimidating instructions linked to the case.
Chikage san, at first, performed as someone flirty to Shu that everyone would never have thought that she also played an important role in the case. It's shocking yet thrilling at the same time when the secret was getting obvious.
Similar to Mizuko san, I think this is my first time to see Tanaka Minami in a drama. Looking forward to seeing her in another project.
Well, the show has just ended. The ending was a bit satisfactory with some plot twists but somehow a bit predicted since I'm not really new in this kind of drama. A happy ending with some lovey dovey was not really my thing. While watching this drama, I was currently watching She Was Pretty Japanese adaptation. In episode 9, the male and the female were already an item and the scenes were making me push forward a couple of times hahaha... I don't know why I seem to have problems when I watched Japanese dorama adapted from Korean drama or Chinese drama.
If you're looking for a drama full of comedy but thrilling at the same time, with some plot twist, take your time watching Hitman in Love. It is absolutely worth watching and your time.
