(QR) Survival Family (2017)

 The Plot

When a worldwide electrical outage occurs, everything that requires electricity comes to a stop. Yoshiyuki Suzuki decides to escape with his family from Tokyo, that is nearly ruined.

I never thought I could finish this movie in one sit. Well, I mostly watched some long movies with some breaks, either I got bored or I had to do something :D

The movie has post apocalyptic tag, a genre that is usually not my cup of tea, especially if it is something related to virus or destruction because of some space objects. But this movie has a very simple plot as mentioned as the title, Survival Family, that is how to survive in a destructed situations.

After Japan got blackout, especially in Tokyo, the people got chaotic since they got used to having a lot of facilities connected to electricity. Smartphones, household appliances, transportations, etc. So, how do the people survive in the situation?

I, myself, cannot imagine living without electricity and water is scarce. In 2023 (the year I write this blog), everything is accessible in your fingertips. So, when everything went the old ways, chaos happened. Cash is much more worth than credit cards, food supplies are priceless compared to Rolex or other expensive brands. Talking and reading paperback were the only choice to spend the time.

At first, I got annoyed at Yoshizuki Suzuki's family especially the children who didn't have any respect to their parents. But after the incident, they got reminded that they had to be there for each other. The father who used to be so full of himself started to realize something wrong with his personality, the mother who always saw something from the bright side kept reminding the children of the bond of the family, Yui and Kenji realized how their parents tried to give their best for them. 

This movie also has comedy as one of the tags, and I had a good laugh in some scenes, but got terrified in some other
scenes and felt relieved at the end. I'm glad I came across this movie and watched it. I highly recommend it to any of you.

Minor spoiler: This movie somehow reminds me of Japan Sinks animation version where people flocked the streets, departments stores to get food supplies and moved to somewhere safe.
