Released: 2021
The Plot
Not exactly your normal, everyday, run-of-the-mill high school student, Hayashi Miyoshi marches to his own beat. Frank, guileless, and full of quirks, Hayashi has a knack for quietly drawing the attention of classmates and strangers alike. Full of mysterious charm, Hayashi embraces life on his own terms, staying unapologetically true to himself, despite what others might think.
While Hayashi embraces the lighter side of life and draws others toward that light, Nikaido Akira does exactly the opposite. Exuding nothing but doom and gloom, Nikaido has worked hard to build up his dark façade, knowing full well that it’s the best method for keeping others away. While nearly everyone around Nikaidou believes him to be a bad omen, there’s one person who isn’t so sure. Having once caught a glimpse of the boy behind the mask, this person is determined to find that boy once more and bring him into the light.
Living two entirely different lives, Hayashi and Nikaido may not seem to have much in common, but deep down, could they be more alike than they realize? (mydramalist)
I was about to upload this post when I knew that this dorama was based on manga with the same title by Wayama Yama. Well, I think I'm gonna give it a try to read it. It was published in English By Yen Press on July 27, 2021. According to Myanimelist, the manga has 1 volume with 7 chapters.
I watched many BL dramas these past few months, and I do hope that this drama has BL has one of the tags, but it didn't. LOL.
Once, I dropped watching this drama. I thought, it has confusing plots with too many characters with only 24 minutes duration. But, after watching Minato Shouji Coin Laundry, I yearned for more Sho Nishigaki (he played as Shintaro Katsuki), so I watched this drama, for the sake of watching him on screen. He played as an antagonist, though. :D
As I said before, I want to have a BL tag for this drama since there are some characters I could ship. There are two main characters here, uniquely, they don't really interact to each other. Both went to different schools and had different life. Both male characters had their 'partner' I could ship, but it's just bromance, or even less than that. Ugh...
This drama depicts many issues of high school students, starting from bullying, hiding true identity to make peace, pretending to be normal, etc. Hayashi might be the one who was different since he proudly showed that he enjoyed doing useless things. (I thought I shared similar things like him; scrolling social media timeline for nothing, LOL). Matsuya and Arakawa represented those who don't want to be called as nerd, or different from others. Nikaido was indeed unique since he had a chance to be popular with his looks but he chose to hide it.
Do you enjoy reading books? Do you have a particular book that you read over and over again from time to time? Well, I wonder how someone who loves reading books different? Well, I myself love reading. And I'm proud to show that. But one thing, I somehow don't really understand why Hayashi, Matsuya and Arakawa read the same book, entitled Iron and Iron, over and over again. they even recited some lines, and applied it in their life. Hey, I read a lot of books, but I don't really remember some lines, even some of them were uploaded in my blog. I still can't remember. LOL.
I said earlier that I watched this drama for Nishigaki Sho, but then I fell for Ryota Bando. In real life, he might be someone who liked to meddle in someone's business. Here, he wanted to reveal the true identity of Akira Nikaido, who was believed as someone who had a curse ability. Judging from Nikaido's past, I could understand that he behaved that way, but how long he would be able to keep it?
Hmmm.... I could go on and on with more spoilers talking about this drama. But I want to end my babbling here with a quote from the drama taken from the Iron and Iron book:
The world is complicated and ambiguous. In this world, we mix and connect. The words you say are like the fireworks that exploded and then vanished. Or they might have like been tears that resemble sparks. Even so, you'd throw yourself into the world in secret with all your might in an ambiguous form in a complicated straight line. Even if it gets struck so easily this is your ...Yup, indeed we mix and connect, either consciously or unconsciously in the world. What we say, we can automatically forget it but the words might stay longer to other people, either good or bad.
