(QR) Sheishun Cinderella (2022)
The plot
Hagino Shion is a 29-year-old beauty consultant. Although she has never had a boyfriend, Shion leads a happy and fulfilling life. However, one day, Shion participates in a blind date party and it triggers a flashback where she was rejected by her first love back in high school, who told her, "If you're going to confess, you should at least do something about your appearance". As if drawn back by her past trauma, Shion somehow goes back in time and becomes a 17-year-old high school student again. Using the makeup techniques she has honed, Shion decides to move towards a different timeline as compared to what happened 12 years ago.

I wonder how many Cinderella versions in Japanese drama or manga are there. I’ve watched Black Cinderella, Promised Cinderella, Last Cinderella and finally this one, Seishun Cinderella with fantasy supernatural as one of the tags. I don’t oppose the idea of time travel here, but the time travel in this drama sounds weird. But what on Earth is someone going to the past only to confirm about her feeling to someone that ended up bitter in the past and might end up happy after she time travelled? Well, if only I could, I would. LOL.
Honestly, I prefer watching teen dramas like this one to adult drama with affairs as the main issue. But the story itself is really out of the box that I can’t understand how on Earth that time travel happened.
With 10 episodes all together, I think it’s too long with too many hesitations on both main characters whether to get back to the present time or not. Their hesitations really put me at my wits’ end. From episode 5 or so, Hagino’s best friend already found out that she time travelled from the future to the past. And the next episode, the guy whom Hagino had a crush on found it out. And from then on, they kept battling whether or to go back to the present or stayed in their present time. I can’t imagine how she, at her 28 years old, couldn’t decide soon to get back to the present time, instead, put her romantic feeling that she couldn’t get when she was in high school as her priority. Somehow, I can understand her, but it’s really dumb to stay.
I love Kumada Rinka when she played in Marry Me! as her debut. But playing as a high student here, she looks too mature. I know she’s as cute as I saw her the first time, but, well. Compared to to the male lead, Honda Kyoya, she looks much older to him. Well, it’s just my dumb opinion about the casts.
Does it have a happy ending? 100 persen sure it has :D
