6 Recommended Movie-Series You Can Watch during #Covid—19 #Lockdown
Well, you might be the one who is happy to have a lot of time to watch instead of going to work or going to school or college. But having too much time for staying at home and just doing nothing is really something you can’t bear for too long. The feeling of mingling with relatives and friends is just as appealing as the mouth-watering food in a nearby food stall but you can’t just go there since you apply social and physical distancing.
One sure activity you can do is being a couch potato, spending time watching movies. Considering that, I’d like to give some movie-series recommendation you can binge watching. Why do I call it as movie-series, well yeah, it’s because movies are supposed to be an independent movie, it’s different from drama that has series. But the movie-series I’ d like to share with you is the movies consisting more than one show. (Sorry, I just can’t make up how I should call the term) 😁😁😁
Here they are:
1.
Rurouni Kenshin
Who hasn’t watched this trilogy that is going to have two other movies this coming July 2020. I really wish that this pandemi will be long gone when the movie gets premiere. The story is based on manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The manga was published in Weekly Shonen Jump 1994-1999). The story revolves around KenshinHimura, a legendary swordman, has stopped killing with sword after Meiji Restoration. He tries to live a peaceful life with Kaoru Kamiya, the owner of a swordsmanship school in the village. Why do I highly recommend the movies, of course, the story is engaging, the action, the suspense, and the actors’ acting is superb. If you’re looking for a movie, having a slight romance with full action, Rurouni Kenshin is the one.
2.
Library Wars
(Toshokan Senso)
If you love reading books, really fond keeping them, you absolutely love this trilogy. From the title, you can guess what it is about. Based on manga by Akiko Nogi and Hiro Arikawa (a light novel), the trilogy movies were launched in 2013 and 2015. The story is about a new law is passed in order to crack down on free expression, set in 2019. The new law allows for the government to create an armed force to find and destroy objectionable printed material. Meanwhile, to oppose this oppressive crackdown, the Library Defense is created. The Library Defense, including instructor Atsushi Dojo and Iku Kasahara, work to protect the libraries. A fierce battle then ensues between these two groups.
Even though the movie stated it’s an action movie, as you can see the trailer (full of weapon battle), it has slight romance and comedy. The duo police officers, Atsushi Dojo and Iku Kasahara have this kind of cold but warm relationship. Atsushi Dojo is kind of another figure of tsundere.
3.
Death Note
This is another live action of a great legendary manga by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba. the story revolves around a battle between geniuses, one with brain and a killing notebook from a weary—shinigami-- Light (Kira), and the other genius with tricks, L (Lawliett). The duo logy (2006) was followed by another movie telling about the life of L after the ruckus of the Death Note (2008). The trilogy then had another live action in 2016 telling about the world after the geniuses long gone. I can say that I don’t really recommend the latest movie, since I myself lost my interest on it. It’s different from the previous movies that go along with the manga.
4.
Chihayafuru
Another series of manga live action.I read some chapters of this manga, unfortunately, I hardly enjoyed the manga, that’s why I preferred the live action. The story tells about high school teenagers who love playing traditional card game from Japan called karuta. From the beginning Chihaya learned about karuta, she insisted on establishing karuta club, and even became the national champion. I can say that it’s quite rare to find such teens who really want to preserve the traditional game and even give inspiration to her friends. The trilogy tells most about how these teens learn the tricks of karuta, and series of their practices before the championship. Romance? I ship Chihaya with her childhood friend instead of her previous tutor in karuta :D
5.
Always
Sunset on Third Street
I watched the movies long ago and I just realized that the movies were based on manga by Ryohei Saigan. The movies tell about the life of a writer named Ryunosuke Chagawa. He struggled to become a great writer after his hit long ago. Beside Ryunosuke Chagawa, there are some other side characters that make the story exciting. Meet Mutsuko, a rural girl who tried to recover from a post war becoming a mechanic in a shabby auto repair shop owned by Norifumi Suzuki. This owner was a kind of showy person who wanted to show off his neighbors with his brand new technology, like refrigerator, television, etc. It was hilarious to see Japanese people get amazed on their own technology, not to mention the mighty Tokyo Tower that started to be established in 1954, the same as the movie setting. I'm amazed how fast Japanese people recovered from Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing.
6. Gintama
Once again, it's based on a manga by Hideaki Shorachi. Actually, the manga has a complete versions: anime, live action drama and movie. I didn't read the manga nor watch the anime. But watching the movies is already hilarious.
The story was set in a parallel universe around in the Edo period. Alien species Amanto attack planet Earth. The people on Earth fight back against the aliens for more than 10 years. The Shogunate sees the power of Amanto and decide accept their conquest. The Shogunate builds a puppet government for Amanto and carry out the Sword Abolishment Edict. Due to these actions, samurai, that fought against the Amanto for their country and their lord, fall into a decline.
The interesting ones from the live action are, of course, the effect of the movie. The Edo era, yet, has the very advanced technology with American style eateries, and modern weapons, and the ikemens 😍😍😍. The dwilogy movies will put you on your seat the whole hours, laughing out loud looking at how silly and hilarious the casts are.
I know that there are other movie-series that I have not mentioned, like Gantz, Classroom Assassination, and some others, but I prefer those 7 movies-series. Honestly, I did try to watch Gantz since it has Kenichi Matsuyama, my favorite actor, as the main lead beside Kazunari Ninomiya, but I guess it’s too bloody for me. Classroom Assassination, well, I read the manga, and I love it very much. I can’t imagine watching some characters I love in manga played by actors. Hmmm… I love the actors playing in the live action, but not as the characters in the manga. How can I put it? Well, I guess you know what I mean. Lol.
I know that there must be some minuses of manga to live action movie that is lack of details. To be as detailed as the manga, might be too long for a movie, therefore, to add some more details, the producers made some sequels. More sequels means more budget but it would mean more profits, right? And the audience, like me, would love to see more of the story. The audience who read the manga or watch the anime would be busy comparing between the anime and the live action. That means more debate, arguments among the audience and more promotions of never ending discussion in media. Hahahaha… Once, I read a blog about someone’s opinion of Rurouni Kenshin. In media, I read a lot of positive comments about the movie, but this owner of the blog give opposite opinions. I enjoyed his opinion, instead, since he could give his comparison moderately between the manga and live action. See? Even years later, some good movies are still amazing to discuss about.
So, have you watched all the movies-series I recommend? Please drop by next time for more recommendation.
Ja, matane…
