 The Plot

Having overcome the obstacles that stood between them in high school, Kazunari Hira and Sou Kiyoi have spent the past few years in relative bliss. Living together, they’ve been able to support each other as they learn to navigate the ups and downs of their adult life. But just because life has gotten better, doesn’t mean everything for the happy couple is perfect. 

Currently, in his fourth year of college, Hira has spent the majority of his free time following Kiyoi around in disguise. While Hira enjoys watching his boyfriend from afar, it has recently begun to dawn on him that with graduation looming, he might need to turn his attention elsewhere. With no part-time job experience whatsoever, Hira is starting to see that his favorite pastime may be doing him a disservice.

A fact that only becomes more apparent as his classmates, with their impressive array of work experience, begin to turn their attention toward post-graduation job hunting. Feeling a bit left behind, Hira begins to wonder what it is he wants to do with his life.

While Hira struggles at school, Kiyoi continues to work hard in his acting career. As both Kiyoi and Hira learn to deal with some of life’s more harsh realities, will their relationship stand strong, or will they find their bond beginning to crack under the pressures that come with adulthood? The drama was based on a novel entitled He, Who Is Beautiful by Nagira Yuu.

I never thought I would be this thrilled watching the last episode of this drama. Erm, actually, as soon as the first episode was aired, my life changed (well, I'm being exaggerating :D)

In the first season, people said that it was a toxic relationship with Kiyoi holding the power. since they were in senior high, Hira held his worship towards talented beautiful Kiyoi. It continued until they dated after separation. 

This season showed their relationship after some years. However, the power held by Kiyoi, and inferiority held by Hira since high school didn't really change especially for Hira (that's something I feel annoyed). But then, I tried to think the way Kiyoi did the whole time. Hira, being inferior to see how Kiyoi's career as an actor skyrocketed was somehow understandable. Meanwhile, Hira couldn't get a part time job, and still had low esteem towards others and to himself.  But, seeing how Kiyoi cherished him the whole time was somewhat annoying, too. How can Hira not realize how Kiyoi loved him?

In the first season, I can see how toxic Kiyoi was, bossing Hira around, telling him that he was a stalker, creepy, disgusting, etc. But I know that deep in his heart, he yearned for Hira's attention only for himself. In season 2, I finally see Kiyoi's another side to Hira; soft, understandable (even though he looked a bit annoyed at times), supportive, gentle, and I can see how he loved Hira, no matter how weird he was. Kiyoi was honest to his coworker that he dated a man, instead of women. I think, Kiyoi still held his power towards Hira, but in different way. He tried to put him in his shoe so he could understand Hira.

Thanks to the writer and producer to give us, and me, a kind of satisfaction to see them happy at the end. Angst was there in their relationship, but what kind of relationship without it? The story didn't drag into too long misunderstanding, instead the two leads tried their best to solve the problems. One only problem from this drama is the episode was too short that I want to see them more. Well, I still have the expectation to see them again in their movie released in April. (well, how can I jump to Japan in April?)

Re-watch value: 100/10 (I purposely write down 100 over 10 since I'm re-watching it like 4/5 times already after it's update)

PS: Kiyoi pursued his lips when he was shy is the most kawai expression ever in this drama. 😍😍😍
