5 Japanese BL Recommendation (Part 2)

I already wrote a post about this around two years ago. I never thought that these past few months, Japanese BL lovers and I have been spoiled with a lot of shows. Ureshiiii 😄. For my first post, you can check this link. Since there are quite a lot of dramas, I would only recommend the dramas I have watched starting from 2020 to 2022. The other BL dramas I don't put here don't mean they are bad or something. The five dramas below are drama I keep re-watching :D

Without further ado, here we go

5. Given (2021)

This 8 episode musical drama is a live action version from a manga written by Kizu Natsuki. The anime was released earlier in 2019 with 12 episodes. As soon as I heard that there would be live action for Given, I looked for the anime, and watched it. I did enjoy it. Did I enjoy the live action version, too? Well...

Some parts in anime were deleted in the live action. But I think, it didn't really effect the main story between Mafuyu and Uenoyama. The slow burn between them was delicate enough I couldn't complain much. The music they produced was entertaining, even without lyric. But the song that the lyric composed by Mafuyu, the anime was better. I could feel the emotion Mafuyu felt, but Mafuyu in LA, somehow, I couldn't feel emotional as much as the anime. But I think I should give kudos to the team and the actors that brought the anime into live.

The video is not available in some countries

4. Takara kun to Amagi kun (2022)

I can't imagine that I could fall for this 8-episode-drama. Some BL dramas I watched mostly the couple would realize their feeling at the end of the show. But this drama is different. Amagi was the one who confessed and miraculously Takara accepted his feeling. So, what's the whole story about if the couple already accepted each other?

The story revolves around Takara who was from 'high class' and Amagi from 'lower class'. Nobody knew that these two were a couple, except Amagi's best friend. The story told from Takara and Amagi's points of view. Amagi didn't want Takara to lose his friends if they found out that he dated Amagi. On the other hand, Takara didn't want to lose Amagi. The way they communicated each other was interesting.

3. Utsukushii Kare (My Beautiful Man) (2021)

If you follow this drama you will find that this drama has a second season with 4 episodes starting from February 8, 2023. Season 1 had 6 episodes. Why does it have to be so short, I wonder.

Some people said that the relationship between Hira and Kiyoi is toxic. I previously agreed. But the more I watched the episodes, toxic Kiyoi had a hidden meaning by acting that way. Hira, who always thought that he was disgusting, belonging to the lowest class, could never get along with his classmates. Kiyoi was the one who dragged him into the group. Plus, Kiyoi accepted Hira as the way he was.

Season 2 episode 1 WAS STRIKINGLY AMAZING!!!😍😍😍

2. Minato Shouji Coin Laundry (2022)

There was no BL drama I anticipated long before it aired except this one. Well, that's because I read the manga and I know the casts before, and I love them. Nishigaki Sho had his first appearance that I noticed when he played as a class leader in Kieta Hatsukoi and Kusakawa Takuya had his supporting role in Cherry Magic as a nosy colleague. So, when the first episode was broadcast, I was thrilled.

The story has some slight differences with the manga, but I don't mind at all. I really enjoyed the way they had a chat, told jokes, teased each other and consoled each other. Their love actually already bloomed as soon as they talked to each other. But, Minato  Akira took the whole episodes to realize how he felt. It's kind of tiring and torturing for me hahaha...

1. Kieta Hatsukoi (Vanishing My First Love) (2021)

I can say that the drama is like a sweet tooth treat for my boring tasteless life. I read the manga but I didn't know the casts except Suzuki Jin. So, this drama successfully introduced me with some young ikemens from Naniwa Danshi group and Snow Man group. Michieda Shunsuke and Ren Meguro really stole my attention.

The love story between them bloomed slowly. So did the manga. Aoki slowly realized his feelings to Ida, and Ida gladly put Aoki's feeling into consideration since he never fell for someone. Both of them learned what love was together. The other interesting thing was their supportive friends who had another love story.

The love story's portion had the same amount as the comedy. I could feel their wholesomeness, melt with them and even cry for them. I could re-watch this drama forever 😍

*****

Those are my 5 recommended BL dramas you can put on your watch list. If you're not really into too much skin ship, not to mention 'bed scene', I guarantee those are quite safe for you to watch. Ups, sorry, My Beautiful Man has the intimate scenes at the end of the show, but only for a few seconds!

For closing, I have one honorable mention for another BL drama, it's Old Fashioned Cupcake. I want to put this drama to the list, but honestly, I didn't re-watch it as I do with the ones on the list.

Thank you for reading. Jya matta ne...
